Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a cyclic carbonate simply, safely and quantitatively or in a high yield. SOLUTION: A 1,2-diol compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein R1is a hydroxy groups or a straight chain or branched alkyl or alkoxy group optionally having one or more substituents and having at most 20 carbon atoms; and R2is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group) is reacted with a lower carbamate represented by general formula (2) (wherein R3is a 4C or lower straight chain or branched alkyl group or a benzyl group; and R4and R5are each a hydrogen atom or an 8C or lower straight chain or branched alkyl group) in the presence of an acid catalyst to give the cyclic carbonate represented by general formula (3) (wherein R1and R2are the same as above).
