Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight artificial sand made of waste plastic as a main material, having a nearly spherical particle form in a proper particle size and capable of being used as fine aggregate having excellent heat insulation property or as a soil conditioner having excellent water absorbing and retaining property. SOLUTION: The lightweight artificial sand is composed of a particle body of a foamed polyethylene terephthalate based resin having void parts inside and mineral powder melt-stuck on the surface of the particle body. The lightweight artificial sand is manufactured by heating the small chips of a polyethylene terephthalate-based resin and the mineral powder to 320-500°C for a prescribed time while stirring in a rotary kiln.
