METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MODIFYING STEAM TURBINE, AND MODIFIED STEAM TURBINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify a first steam turbine of a reaction stage type design, and to form a second turbine of a substantially impulse design using components sharing with a first turbine. SOLUTION: In order to modify a new steam path within the first turbine, an upper outer shell 17 and an upper inner shell 14 and a rotor 12 of the first turbine are removed with a lower outer shell 19 left over therein. A lower support section 40 is mounted within the lower outer shell 19. Then, a lower inner shell is mounted on a lower support ring, and the rotor is mounted. The upper inner shell is bolted to the lower inner shell surrounding the rotor, and an upper support section 38 is bolted to the lower support section 40. Finally, the upper outer shell is bolted to the lower outer shell. As a result, a new steam path with a reduced diameter is modified within a convential turbine using the outer shell of a convential turbine. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
