PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily converge from the initial state to the optimum value and to adjust the gain, in a shorter time by providing a means for adding output of A/D converter at each pixel and adjusting gain based on the addition value (or the average value). SOLUTION: Image data for one line outputted from A/D converters 2a and 2b is added, by using adders 6a and 6b, and resisters 7a and 7b. A gain, in response to the addition result, is read from a conversion table 5, and is set in gain setting parts 11a and 11b of amplifiers 1a and 1b. In this state, a histogram of the image data is created, and the gain of the amplifiers 1a and 1b is adjusted in detail. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
