NEW EPOXY RESIN, INTERMEDIATE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THESE, AND EPOXY RESIN COMPOSITION USING THESE AND CURED PRODUCT OF THE COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epoxy resin excellent in moisture resistance, heat resistance and mechanical characteristics such as impact resistance, and useful for applications such as lamination, molding, casting and adhesion, a polyhydric hydroxy resin and methods for producing these resins, and to provide an epoxy resin composition using these resins and a cured product of the composition. SOLUTION: The polyhydric hydroxy resin is obtained by reacting one mole of an aromatic compound expressed by H-B-H (B denotes a bivalent aromatic group) with 2 to 30 moles of a compound such as xylylene glycol and a crosslinking agent selected from divinylbenzenes, and further reacting with phenols or naphthols expressed by H-A-OH (A denotes a benzene ring or a naphthalene ring which may be substituted with a 1-6C alkyl group).
