Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous secondary battery for sufficiently coping with practical use also from the viewpoint of battery design by attaining high capacity while improving charge receiving property in a negative electrode including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon. SOLUTION: In this nonaqueous secondary battery provided with a positive electrode, the negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte, the positive electrode is formed of a material that can electrochemically store and discharge lithium, and the negative electrode contains a negative electrode material formed of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon obtained by thermally reacting a raw material mainly composed of pitch so that (a) the element ratio of hydrogen/carbon is in a range of 0.50 to 0.05 and that (b) the specific surface area by a BET method is 0.1 to 50m2/g. The nonaqueous electrolyte is an electrolyte of lithium salt containing at least ethylene carbonate and chain carbonate as a solvent, and containing ethylene carbonate at 10% to 70% at the volume percentage of the solvent.
