Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous secondary battery of sufficient capacity from the viewpoint of battery design, causing no degradation in capacity by cycle treatment and appropriately controlled in the charge amount of a negative electrode. SOLUTION: In this nonaqueous secondary battery provided with a positive electrode, the negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte, (1) the positive electrode is formed of a material that can electrochemically store and discharge lithium, and (2) the negative electrode includes a negative electrode material formed of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon obtained by thermally reacting a raw material mainly composed of pitch so that (a) the element ratio of hydrogen/carbon is in a range of 0.50 to 0.05 and that (b) the specific surface area by a BET method is in a range of 0.1 to 50 m2/g. Negative electrode release potential in charging in the negative electrode is 20 to 100 mV to lithium potential. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
