REGISTER CONTROLLING METHOD FOR ROTARY PRESS, AND ROTARY PRESS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent spoilage from being produced in association with a change of a printing speed by suppressing a change of a register at head and tail at a speed changing time in a rotary press. SOLUTION: A method for controlling the register of the rotary press includes the steps of predicting characteristics of the register change of a picture printed by respective printing units 4A, 4B, 4C and 4D at the speed changing time with respect to specific parameters for affecting the register change characteristics of the parameters showing operating states of the press, and previously setting and storing phase control characteristics between plate cylinders 5 of the respective printing units for canceling the deviations of the registers at head and tail of the pictures based on the predicted register change characteristics in a database 32. The method also includes the steps of selecting the phase control characteristics in response to the present value of the specific parameter from a plurality of phase control characteristics stored in the database 32, and changing the phase relation between the plate cylinders 5 of the respective units based on the selected phase control characteristics.
