Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-rigidity nonwoven fabric having excellent uniform rigidity of the whole nonwoven fabric and a core material for tatami mat having good appearance, useful as a straw mat part of tatami mat, using the high-rigidity nonwoven fabric and to provide a method for simply producing the high-rigidity nonwoven fabric. SOLUTION: The high-rigidity nonwoven fabric comprises a polyester-based nonwoven fabric and has 300-1,500 g/m2weight and 1.0-3.0 kgf flexural strength measured in accordance with JIS 7221 flexural test. The core material for tatami mat useful for the straw mat part is obtained by using the high-rigidity nonwoven fabric. The method for producing the high-rigidity nonwoven fabric comprises subjecting the polyester-based nonwoven fabric obtained after nonwoven fabric production to a water treatment process and a heat treatment process at 120-220°C.
