DOCUMENT SCANNER FOR PERFORMING DOUBLE-SIDED SCANNING OR TRANSPARENCY SCANNING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a duplex scanner having movable cameras provided on one side of a document transport path and mirrors or light sources accompanying the cameras to scan a transparency. SOLUTION: The scanner, in its normal mode of operation, is functioned as a duplex reflective scanner. An image on any one side of an opaque flat object is captured by a CCD with light reflected from the light source located on the same side of any surface to become a read target. A light source of one camera (in the case of operating) is configured to be aligned side by side with an aperture of the other camera located on the opposite side. Thus, light of the one camera is transmitted through the transparency to capture the image of the transparency with the CCD of the other camera. In the other camera which captures the image, in a transparency scanning mode, the light source of the other camera is turned off. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
