Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a sago-based or other starch-based hydrogel having properties suitable for application to a sticking plaster, a surgical use and other medical uses. SOLUTION: The hydrogel forming composition contains up to 30 wt.%, preferably 7.5 to 30 wt.% of the starch, up to 20 wt.%, preferably 7.5 to 20 wt.% of polyvinylpyrrolidon, up to 15 wt.%, preferably 7.5 to 15 wt.% of polyvinyl alcohol, up to 10 wt.%, preferably 3 to 10 wt.% of water-soluble cellulose and water. The hydrogel is prepared by exposing a half-gelled material made of the composition to an electron beam or a γ-ray to the extent that the total beam absorption amounts to 5 to 50 kGy.
