ACTIVATED CARBON FIBER AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide porous carbon fibers especially absorbing and desorbing gaseous substance, having improved specific surface area, activity and selectivity as compared to conventional technology, and to provide a method for producing the same and their use. SOLUTION: The porous activated carbon fibers composed of carbonized organic or inorganic fibers are produced in a process comprising a step spinning mixed fibers obtained by producing a spinning mixture comprising a polymer A based on polyacrylonitrile and a polymer B based on an organic or organometallic polymer, a step stabilizing the fibers by oxidation, and a step carbonizing or graphitizing the fibers under a nonoxidative condition in which at least 25 wt.% of the original polymer B forms residues of carbon and/or metal and/or carbonized metal, and the product fibers has active centers comprising pores at least a part filled with the residues.
