Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a homoglutathione which is an analogous substance of glutathione by utilizing an inexpensive and industrially mass-producible microbial enzyme. SOLUTION: A method for producing the homoglutathione comprises reacting L-glutathione, L-cysteine and β-alanine which are constituent amino acids with a bacterium of the genus Escherichia having γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase activity and glutathione synthetase activity or its treated material, preferably Escherichia coli in which both enzyme activities are increased by a genetic recombination technique or its treated material, preferably in the presence of adenosine-5'-triphosphate.
