Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acrylic fiber with high quality/high appearance quality, having excellent spreadability, and hardly causing single fiber breakage; to provide a flame retardant fiber obtained by flame retardizing the acrylic fiber; to provide a carbon fiber obtained by carbonizing the flame retardant fiber; and to achieve a method for simply producing the carbon fiber at a low cost. SOLUTION: The acrylic fiber includes ≤0.04% number of single fibers which are arranged at ≥20° oblique angle to the substantial longitudinal direction of a coagulated fiber bundle collected after spinning based on the number of the single fibers in the coagulated fiber bundle at an arbitrary selected position in 0.5 m length.
