AROMATIC COMPOUND CONTAINING SULFONIC ACID GROUP AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new aromatic compound containing sulfonic acid groups and useful as a raw material for various functional polymer compounds for use in a fuel cell, brine electrolysis, an ion-exchange membrane and the like, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The aromatic compound contains sulfonic acid groups and is represented by general formula (1) (wherein R1is an alkylene group which may have an ether bond; A is a hydroxy group or a halogen atom; B is a single bond, an alkylene group, a carbonyl group, an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, or a sulfonyl group; M is a hydrogen atom or an alkali metal; n is an integer of 1 or 2; and the numbers and positions of groups represented by R1-SO3M on the two aromatic rings may be the same or different).
