MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which enables proper recording and reproduction, without deteriorating other characteristics by controlling surface smoothness for the specific range of wavelength. SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium, having at least a single magnetic layer of less than 0.3 μm on which magnetic dispersion solution distributing ferromagnetic powder in a linking agent, is coated on one side or both sides of non-magnetic support object is configured to be less than 4.5nm in terms of roughness in arithmetic average (Ra) and less than 40nm in terms of the maximum height (Ry), after a roughness with the wavelength of less than 3μm is removed by using an optical interference type surface viewing means. The non-magnetic support object is a polyester-based plastic film with thickness of 2.0-8.0μm, for example and is configured to be less than 6.0nm, in terms of the roughness in the arithmetic average (Ra) and less than 70nm in terms of the maximum height (Ry), after the roughness with the wavelength of less than 3μm is removed by using the optical interference type surface viewing means.
