APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR BACKUP AND BACKUP EVALUATING PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for backup and a backup evaluating program which can improve the reliability and operation managing performance of a backup operation by judging the possibility of a failure in backup due to a deficiency of tape capacity and giving a chance to evade a risk of the failure. SOLUTION: A backup server 1 is provided with a backup processing means 1c, a backup capacity calculating means 1b, and a backup result evaluating means 1a, backup setting information is used, and permissible backup capacity is calculated from a predetermined relational expression and compared with the capacity of backed-up data to evaluate the probability of a failure in backup. Consequently, measures of reviewing backup setting conditions can be taken before the backup ends in failure to improve the reliability and operation managing performance of the backup operation.
