PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a recording error. SOLUTION: Error rates relating to an MD loaded to an MD recorder are detected and the information on the detected error rate is outputted to a main processing section 101 of a public terminal unit 100. Whether the recording error occurs or not relating to the MD loaded at that time can be estimated with high accuracy depending upon the error rates. The main processing section 101 references the received error rates and ejects the MD loaded in the MD recorder when the section estimates the occurrence of the recording error. Namely, the MD having a possibility of giving rise to the recording error is ejected to prohibit data recording thereof, by which the occurrence of the recording error is averted.
