Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an NOX gas detecting method and a device therefor stably detectable NOX gas for a long period of time. SOLUTION: A detection pole, a counter pole, and a reference pole are provided for an alkali metal ionic conductor, and nitrite salt of an alkali metal is added to the counter pole only. With the potential of the detection pole intermittently made to be operation potential on the order of -150 mV by means of pulses of a duty ratio of about 1/5 and 10 sec or less in width, the detection pole and the counter pole are connected to each other. During the other periods, the detection pole is disconnected from the counter pole or from the reference pole. NOX gas is detected from a current flowing through the counter pole/ detection pole during a latter half of a pulse. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
