Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device permitting high-speed response and gradation control. SOLUTION: The voltage generated in a liquid crystal layer 85 due to re-distribution of electric charges induced by spontaneous polarization at the moment when the applied voltage is turned off is made to 1/5 or smaller of the saturation voltage to which a quantity of light emitted from the liquid crystal element 80 is saturated. Then, by making the voltage generated in the liquid crystal layer 85 to such a value, the generation of the electric field caused by uneven distribution of electric charges at the time of turning off the applied voltage can be suppressed, and a rebound phenomenon can be suppressed.
