Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To machine a rack product or a rack electrode of a variable gear ratio rack with high accuracy at low cost. SOLUTION: In the machining method for a variable gear ratio rack 20, a reciprocation cutting movement for vertically moving a rack material against a cutting blade of a pinion cutter 10 and cut-in for forwardly/rearwardly moving the rack material against the pinion cutter 10 are imparted using the pinion cutter 10 having the same tooth shape as that of a pinion gear product and a gear hobbing machine. The same relative feed speed as a relative movement speed of the pinion gear product and the rack product in the power steering device is imparted during the reciprocation/rotation movement of the pinion cutter 10 and the right/left movement of the rack material.
