ELEMENT FOR ABSORBING COLLISION ENERGY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved collision energy absorbing element. SOLUTION: This collision energy absorbing element used for a vehicle has a box-like beam shape, and is constituted of at least two different beam portions 1, 2. The element is provided with a support portion 1 of high strength and an absorption portion 2 of low strength, in its cross section. The support portion of high strength is constituted to be attached to a body of the vehicle, and the absorption portion of low strength is positioned to be escaped from the vehicle in its direction. The element of the box-like beam shape is prepared by hydroforming a tube, and the tube is formed of at least two different sheet components of blanks welded together, so as to form the support portion 1 and the collision absorbing portion 2.
