Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small incision intraocular lens. SOLUTION: Optically transparent, high refractive index hydrogels are provided. The expansile hydrogel intraocular lens 10 is fabricated from the hydrogels by heating them above their elastic deformation temperature and deforming them into an elongated configuration having at least one reduced dimension 20 suitable for insertion through a small surgical incision. The lens is allowed to cool in this configuration and retains the deformed shape prior to surgical implantation. Following implantation, the lens hydrates into an enlarged elastic form reassuming the original lens configuration of full size. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
