Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform activation by accelerating temperature rise of an exhaust gas purification catalyst at cold start. SOLUTION: In this engine 20, the exhaust gas purification catalyst 31 is provided at a downstream side of an exhaust gas passage 30 of the exhaust turbocharger 22, and a waste gate valve 33 is provided to a bypass passage 32. A valve 34 capable of opening/closing is provided to a turbine outlet 29 of the exhaust turbocharger 22. A control device 50 is provided which closes the valve 33 at cold start of the engine and opens the waste gate valve 33 thereby to heat the exhaust gas purification catalyst 31 by means of an exhaust gas from the bypass passage 32. Accordingly, at cold start of the engine, the exhaust gas can be directly introduced from the bypass passage 32 to the exhaust gas purification catalyst 31, whereby heating is performed by the exhaust gas in which temperature drop is small, and the activation of the catalyst is performed in a short period of time, thereby carrying out purification of the exhaust gas.
