ROAD MONITORING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road monitoring system capable of transmitting proper image data corresponding to occurred traffic events and traffic event information in real time to a central monitoring base. SOLUTION: This road monitoring system comprises an A/D converting part 8 for converting images photographed by cameras into digital images, a coding part 13 for coding the digital images, an image recognizing and processing part for recognizing monitored objects from the digital images and calculating object information, a traffic event determination part 12 for determining traffic events on a monitored road by using the object information, a coding control part 16 allowing the coding part 13 to code with a specified algorithm corresponding to a determined traffic event, a road information transmitting device 101 having a data transmission part 15 for transmitting the coded images and traffic event information, a communication network 3 for transmitting transmitted data, and the central monitoring base 1 for monitoring the monitored object on road by using the transmitted coded images and traffic event information.
