Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas recirculation system for a compression ignition engine. SOLUTION: Exhaust gas recirculation is stopped in response to detected or calculated humidity in an intake manifold. The humidity is relative to a dew point of an exhaust/intake air mixture. Humidity of the exhaust/intake air mixture may be measured in the intake manifold or a charge air mixer, or ambient humidity may be detected. If humidity is measured in the charge air mixer or ambient air, other factors such as engine speed and load, intake manifold pressure, EGR flow and air/fuel ratio may be used to calculate the humidity in the intake manifold. When a temperature of the mixture in the intake manifold is lower than the dew point of the mixture, engine control strategy may stop the EGR to prevent condensation in the exhaust gas recirculation system or engine.
