Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for suppressing elevation of a blood-sugar level, which can sufficiently lower the blood-sugar level in diabetes especially in NIDDM (noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus), is high in safety and can be taken in an optional form and to provide a composition containing the same. SOLUTION: The material for suppressing elevation of a blood-sugar level is specific in consisting of a low molecular weight chitosan having a weight average molecular weight of 10,000-20,000 as an active ingredient. The composition characterized by containing the low molecular weight chitosan having the molecular weight of 10,000-20,000 as the active ingredient, is a substance for suppressing elevation of a blood-sugar level and is used as a food, a beverage, a feed or a medicine.
