Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device allowed to reduce the difference in level of an insulating film located below an oriented film so that rubbing to a material for the oriented film may be uniformly done. SOLUTION: A major electrode portion for generating a transverse electric field is formed to a layer aside from a layer for forming the other electrode and wiring to form the thin layer compared with the other electrode and wiring. This drastically improves the flatness of the underlying film of the oriented film. The material for the oriented film applied on the underlying film is also formed with good flatness. Thus, the rubbing to the material for the oriented film is uniformly done over the entire surface of a substrate. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
