Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for manufacturing silica-titania complex oxide having dispersion of rutile titania microcrystals. SOLUTION: The silica-titania complex oxide having dispersion of rutile titania microcrystals in an amorphous matrix is obtained by hydrolyzing a silicon alkoxide such as silicon tetramethoxide or silicon tetraethoxide and a titanium alkoxide such as titanium tetraethoxide, or titanium tetraisopropoxide, heating the co-hydrolyzed product at 900 to 1,300°C in an inert atmosphere such as nitrogen or argon to produce the complex oxide to crystallize the microcrystals of rutile titania in the complex oxide.
