FORMING DIE FOR GLASS OPTICAL ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forming die for a glass optical element which has an excellent releasing property without necessitating a releasing film. SOLUTION: This forming die 1 is made by forming a die body 2 into a prescribed shape by using silicon carbide sintering material (Fig. A), forming a silicon carbide film 3 on the surface of a die part 2a of the die body 2 by chemical deposition (Fig. B), polishing the surface of the silicon carbide film 3 like a mirror (Fig. C) and assigning the polished surface to a forming surface 3a. The silicon carbide film 3 is made of a carbon-rich composition, thereby, an adhesive property of the forming surface 3a which is the surface of the film to glass is decreased drastically.
