Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of light leak within a pixel region. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a light reflection region in a portion of the pixel region of the liquid crystal side surface of one of the substrates which are arranged by opposing to each other through liquid crystals. Pixel electrodes which are also used as a reflection film are formed in the light reflection region. The device is also provided with a light transmission region in at least the portion other than the portion in which the light reflection region is provided. Light transmissive pixel electrodes are formed in the light transmission region. The pixel electrodes which are also used as a reflection film are formed on the top surface excluding the opening section of an insulation film in which an opening section is formed on the portion corresponding to the light transmission region. The opening section of the insulation film has taper which is widened toward the liquid crystal side starting from the substrate side on the side wall surface. At least a portion of the taper is exposed without being covered by the pixel electrodes that are also used as the reflection film. The insulation film has a light absorbing characteristic at least in the portion of the taper. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
