PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical control method for a cleaning device and the cleaning device, by which offset toner is prevented from passing through, while the consumption of a cleaning web is reduced. SOLUTION: The cleaning device is equipped with a supply part 81 feeding the cleaning web 56 to a fixing roller 30, a pressing part 71 pressing the web 56 to the roller 30, a temperature detection sensor 82 detecting the temperature of the roller 30, an integration counter 64 integrating the driving time of the roller 30, and a web controller 60 controlling the driving of the supply part 81. When the sensor 82 consecutively detects temperature showing a specified value or under for a fixed time in the midst of driving the fixing device 32, the controller 60 feeds the cleaning web from the supply part 81 in a reset time shorter than a reference set time.
