Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which has smooth surface properties and an undercoat film by which deterioration of surface properties and a crack are not generated and which has no fear to cause blocking, even when a ferromagnetic metal thin film is formed by a sputtering method, a deposition method and the like obliged to heat a substrate, and can be easily manufactured at low cost. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has the undercoat film containing polyimide resin containing a recurring unit represented by the following general formula (1) and the ferromagnetic metal thin film successively in this order on a non-magnetic substrate.
