Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical melting furnace that can stably produce and discharge a melt without specially raising the temperatures in front of tuyeres by increasing the consumption of fuel or oxygen. SOLUTION: This vertical melting furnace has a plurality of tuyeres 16 provided in the peripheral direction in its lower part and a melt drain port 15 near its bottom section. Among the wall of the furnace positional between the tuyeres 16, at least the wall portion 20 between two tuyeres 16a and 16b adjoining each other on both sides of the drain port 15 is protruded to the inside of the furnace.
