Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber for transmission of UV rays in which proceeding of deterioration by UV rays is highly suppressed and to provide a method for manufacturing the fiber. SOLUTION: The method includes a process of heating a quartz optical fiber preform 1 formed to have resistance against UV rays to draw into an optical fiber 2 (A in the figure) and a process of applying a coating layer 3 on the peripheral surface of the optical fiber 2 (2a of C in the figure) which is cooled at least to room temperature (B in the figure). The coating layer 3 is applied at a temperature higher than the room temperature so as to generate >=10 MPa stress due to the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion.
