Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display defects such as uneven brightness, uneven color tone and so on due to local variation of thickness of a liquid crystal layer in a transverse electric field type active matrix liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: In the transverse electric field type liquid crystal display device with electrodes formed so as to produce an electric field predominantly parallel to the substrate, the liquid crystal layer thickness is specified for respective colors in such a way that wavelength regions exhibiting peak transmittance for color filters of the respective colors and wavelength regions exhibiting peak transmittance of the liquid crystal layer nearly coincide with each other. Furthermore, a distance between line electrodes and a pixel area are specified.
