Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a bromodifluoroacetic acid compound from an industrially easily available reagent in a high yield without a toxic catalyst nor the problem of a waste liquid containing hydrogen fluoride. SOLUTION: This method for producing the bromodifluoroacetic acid or its ester comprises oxidizing 1,1-difluoro-1,2-dibromodihalogenoethane with oleum (fuming sulfuric acid) having a sulfur trioxide concentration of 50 to 70% to obtain the bromodifluoroacetyl halide (bromide or chloride), and then directly reacting the bromodifluoroacetyl halide with an alcohol or water.
