Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selectively thickening a sludge mixture containing ferrous sludge in a phosphate chemical conversion treatment liquid and aluminum-system sludge to high concentrations by the kinds of the metals in the sludge. SOLUTION: This method for thickening the sludge includes a process step (1) of transferring the phosphate chemical conversion treatment liquid containing the ferrous sludge and the aluminum-system sludge to a recovering tank, a process step (2) of transferring the liquid out of the recovering tank and a process step (3) of recovering the sludge from the transferred out phosphate chemical conversion treatment liquid. The transfer flow rate to the recovering tank in the process step (1) is regulated in such a manner that the mass ratio of the aluminum-base sludge to the entire part of the sludge in the phosphate chemical conversion treatment liquid is increased after the sludge is transferred out of the recovering tank as compared with the ratio before the transfer to the recovering tank. In addition, the position where the sludge is transferred out of the recovering tank in the process step (2) is set.
