Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a metallic mold ultra-smoothly molding a glass substrate used for a hard disk corresponding to requirement of heightening its density and its reliability. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the metallic mold for molding the substrate which is used in obtaining the glass substrate by heating, softening and press molding the glass comprises the first step of subjecting a press surface 2 of a metallic mold base material 1 to specular finishing, the second step of forming a processable film 4 on the press surface of the metallic mold base material and the third step of subjecting the surface of the processable film to specular finishing to reach a depth sufficient to eliminate influence of defects on the press surface.
