Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device provided with a black matrix which is uniformly fabricated on a substrate at a low cost and with a high yield and hardly has any adverse effect of the fabrication on environment. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with a first substrate to be a display surface, a second substrate placed opposite to the first substrate, a liquid crystal sealed in a gap between the first and second substrates, light shielding walls disposed on the inside surface of the second substrate and partitioning it into a plurality of regions and color filters respectively disposed on a plurality of the partitioned regions. The light shielding walls are formed by patterning a metal layer deposited on the second substrate and an oxide layer formed by oxidizing the surface of the metal layer. The film thickness of the oxide layer is about 400-530 .
