PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a selective and partial agonist of new serotonin receptor useful as an antianxiety agent and an antidepressant. SOLUTION: This 4-(2-pyridyl)piperizine compound is represented by general formula [R is hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, a heteroaryl, an arylmethyl, or a heteroarylmethyl; R and R are each hydrogen or an alkyl group; X and Y are each hydrogen, a halo, hydroxy, nitro, amino, a -C(=O)-O-alkyl, an alkyl- C(=O)-alkyl, carboxy, carbamoyl, a fluorine-substituted alkyl, an alkoxy, or the like] and its pharmacological acceptable salt.
