PROPHYLACTIC AND REMEDY FOR EPILEPSY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prophylactic and remedy for epilepsy, scarcely causing side effects but highly effective. SOLUTION: This prophylactic and remedy for epilepsy contains at least one compound of theanine and its derivative as an active ingredient. L-theanine, D-theanine, and the derivative of which the base structure is derived therefrom are preferably used as the theanine and its derivative. Appearance of after discharge (AD) or evolution thereof is prevented by administering the theanine. Especially, appearance of AD-like abnormal discharge or evolution thereof is prevented, when the theanine is administered to a patient who lapses into a state that abnormal discharge of the AD is easily caused in the brain by troubles in the childbirth or injuries on the head. Further, sequential epilepsy which is thought to be a secondary disease and accompanies convulsion is prevented.
