COLOR FORMAT DISCRIMINATING APPARATUS AND COLOR FORMAT DISCRIMINATING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color format discriminating apparatus and a color format discriminating method by which discrimination of color formats can be carried out rapidly. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with a plurality of Y/C separating sections 2 and 3 for separating each of broadcasting signals of a plurality of color formats into a luminance signal and a color signal, a through signal path 6 for outputting the broadcasting signal without separating it into a luminance signal and a color signal, a switch 1 for selectively relaying the inputted broadcasting signal to any one of the respective sections 2 and 3 and the path 6, a first discriminating section 41 for detecting the variation of the color format of the broadcasting signal on the basis of output signals from the sections 2 and 3, and a second discriminating section 42 for discriminating the color format of the broadcasting signal on the basis of the broadcasting signal inputted through the path 6. When the variation of the color format is detected by the section 41, the switch is changed over to relay the broadcasting signal to the path 6.
