Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection circuit for a power element that can surely execute ASO(Area of Safe Operation) protection for the power element of any rating level and protect the power element against an overcurrent with a simple configuration without the need for attachment of excess components. SOLUTION: The protection circuit includes a comparator 3 that detects flowing of an overcurrent through the power element 1, a flip-flop 9 and an AND circuit 11 that cut off a control signal given to the power element 1 after a lapse of a prescribed ON-time t from a time when the comparator 3 detects the overcurrent, and a counter 7 that releases the interruption of the control signal after a lapse of a prescribed OFF-time T from a time when the flip-flop 9 and the AND circuit 11 interrupt the control signal. The ON time and the OFF time are properly selected so that the power element 1 is operated within the area of safe operation.
