Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein lubrication effect lasts for a long time and excellent running properties and durability are realized by enhancing adhesion stability between a protective film and a lubricant. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium 1 is provided with a magnetic layer 3, the protective film 4 and the lubricant 5 in this order on a non-magnetic substrate 2. The surface (coming in contact with the lubricant 5) of the protective film 4 is subjected to UV irradiation treatment in an inert gas atmosphere. The lubricant 5 held on the protective film 4 contains an ester compound represented by general formula R COOCH2 -Rf-CH2 OCOR or R OOC-Rf'-COOR and a perfluorocarboxylate represented by general formula Cn F2n+1 -COOR.
