Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for producing a 5-alkyloxazolidine-2,4- dione of high purity. SOLUTION: The 5-alkyloxazolidine-2,4-dione can be obtained by reacting 2-hydroxycarboxamide used as a raw material with a carbonic ester in the presence of a metal alcoholate. A solution of a metal salt of the obtained 5- alkyloxazolidine-2,4-dione is subjected to a neutralization precipitation treatment with an acid to obtain the 5-alkyloxazolidine-2,4-dione of high purity.
