Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the alkali metal salt of tetrahydroboric acid or the alkali metal salt of tetrahydridoaluminic acid under mild conditions of a room temperature and atmospheric pressure at a high yield using an easily obtainable and treatable raw material. SOLUTION: (A) The alkali metal salt of boric acid or aluminic acid; (B) metallic hydride; and (C) at least one kind selected from the hydroxide, oxide, peroxide, carbonate and hydrogencarbonate of alkali metals are brought into contact in a state of fine powder, and they are reacted while applying mechanical energy thereto, so that the alkali metal salt of tetrahydroboric acid or the alkali metal salt of tetrahydridoaluminic acid expressed by the general formula of M [M H4 ] where M is alkali metal and M is boron or aluminum is produced.
