Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for inspecting a printed matter which can accurately manage a physical amount of the printed matter using a specific physical ink such as, for example, a magnetic ink, and which can accurately inspect a non-defective or defective of the matter without contact. SOLUTION: In the printed matter 1 using the magnetic ink, a reference print pattern 4 of the magnetic ink is formed on a marginal part 3 of the matter 1. The apparatus for inspecting the printed matter 1 comprises a line sensor 7 for simultaneously acquiring optical image of the part 3 and a main printed part 5, and a magnetic sensor 8 provided near the sensor 7 to acquire a magnetic content of the pattern 4 of the marginal part 3. The method for inspecting the printed matter 1 comprises the steps of acquiring a magnetic content and an optical density level of the main printed part 5 while acquiring the magnetic content and the optical density level, and hence acquiring the magnetic content of the printing pattern of the part 5 from a correlation between the magnetic content of the pattern 4 and the optical density level. The method further comprises the step of deciding the non-defective or defective of the matter 1 based on the acquired magnetic content.
