Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs by dispensing with a forcible heating means such as electric heater and a burner and to certainly prevent occurrence of clogging in a short time. SOLUTION: In relation to this exhaust emission control device having a particulate filter 4 on the way of an exhaust pipe, an NO2 generating catalyst 7 for improving a function of generating NO2 by selectively reacting NO in exhaust gas 2 with oxygen is carried in a desired range backward from the front end surface of the filter 4. Thus, the exhaust gas 2 contacts with a carried region of the NO2 generating catalyst 7 with a high frequency to change NO in the exhaust gas 2 to NO2 with high reactivity, and the NO2 flows backward and selectively reacts with carbon component in particulates 8 collected by the filter 4. As a result, combustion of the carbon component is assisted to efficiently combust and remove the particulates at a relatively low ignition temperature.
