Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for using a specific detergent composition contained in a lubricating oil composition for decreasing wear in an engine. SOLUTION: A small amount of a detergent composition containing at least one metal detergent containing a metal salt of an organic acid is used in a lubricating oil composition for decreasing wear in an engine. The detergent composition contains a metal salt of an aromatic carboxylic acid in an amount of more than 50 mol% of the metal salt of the organic acid. The lubricating oil composition contains phosphorus in an amount lower than 0.09 mass% and sulfur in an amount of 0.5 mass% or lower.
